CCK prepared a special edition of its newsletter for parishes in advance of the 2002 Mid-Term Elections. Voter information is included, (e.g., list of candidates, constitutional amendments, questions for candidates). Included is a special pull-out page with clip art for parish bulletin inserts. Included is a special appeal on behalf of death row inmate, Kevin Stanford. The U.S. Supreme Court rejected Kevin's final appeal on October 7, 2002. CCK is encouraging Catholics to contact Governor Paul Patton and ask that he use his Executive Clemency power to change Kevin's sentence to life in prison. A special pull-out page for duplication and distribution is included.
CCK welcomes the new Bishop of Covington, Roger J. Foys. CCK staff report on the 2002 Regular Session of the Kentucky General Assembly. Kentucky's bishops visit the state's maximum security prison with CCK Advisory Committees and celebrate mass with inmates. Archbishop Thomas C. Kelly, O.P. names Vincent E. Senior as new CCK Executive Director. A final farewell to Jane J. Chiles.
Kentucky's bishops respond to the execution of Timothy McVeigh. Justice is sought for the state's poultry workers. Bishops' statement on the Observance of Roe v.Wade decision. For Catholics, Democracy is an opportunity. Action in Kentucky's first annual odd-numbered year is a limited success for CCK.
