The 2022 General Assembly closed its last legislative day before the Governor’s veto period without expanding the Education Opportunity Account Act. While we came up short this session, a strong foundation for expansion was laid.
Representative Josh Calloway’s legislation in the House received strong support, including from some legislators who had opposed school choice efforts in the past. Momentum is on our side and we expect the number of school choice supporters to continue to grow as more lawmakers see the undeniable results of these programs for students.
You can find a list below of the legislators who sponsored the 2022 Education Opportunity Account expansion bills along with the counties that they represent. Please reach out and say “thank you”, especially to those legislators who represent your county. Take note that several counties have more than one legislator. You can find each legislator’s contact information by clicking on their name below. If you want to look up your state representative and senator, you can visit the LRC website here.
In the meantime, we are continuing to monitor the ongoing case before the Kentucky Supreme Court concerning the Education Opportunity Account Act. We are hopeful for more progress this fall so the program can be fully implemented and begin helping families access education dollars for the next school year.
CCK will be partnering with the EdChoice KY coalition throughout 2022 to help educate the public on the Education Opportunity Account Act and to inform eligible parents on how to apply for the program once it is available.
